Elected, in a partisan election, to serve for six years on the Colorado State Board of Education as the representative of the 2nd Congressional District, to discharge the duties of the State Board, as follows:

Make rules, regulations, and policies that govern the Colorado Department of Education, public education including pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, adult education, and public libraries
Accredit public school districts
Facilitate the provision of library services to the citizens of Colorado through the State Library
Distribute federal and state funds
Regulate educator licensing
Supervise adult basic education
Appoint advisory committees
Grant waivers of Colorado education law and regulations
Exercise judicial authority with regard to appeals by charter schools
Submit recommendations for educational improvements to the General Assembly and Governor
